(Groupe International Chirurgiens Amis de la Main) is a Swiss Foundation, based in Lugano, which was founded and has been operating in the surgical field since 1998, particularly in Asia, Africa and South America. The mission of G.I.C.A.M. is the organization of humanitarian programs in the field of Hand Surgery, Orthopedics and Reconstructive Microsurgery. The professionals who participate in the missions are orthopedic or plastic surgeons, anesthetists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and nurses who come from all over the world. Our commitment is to carry out surgical operations and guarantee continuous care at the service of the smallest and poorest, often victims of social ghettoisation, civil wars and famines. For this reason, most interventions are carried out giving priority to women and children. Our work, with an immediate and tangible result, gives the greatest possible number of children affected by burns or congenital malformations for which they are not responsible the opportunity to have a chance in life and provides as many adults with the possibility of returning to the normality of their lives. life after accidents or traumatic events. Page under construction In India to realize a lifelong dream: the creation of two hand surgery departments designed and dedicated to our missions. One of these departments will be built at CRHP (Comprehensive Rural Health Project) in Jamkhed, Maharashtra, where we have collaborated for many years. Completion of this project, including a world-class rehabilitation center and world-class academy, is expected in 2025. Peter Cruse Member << Return to the TEAM page Dr Peter Cruse, a distinguished former South African national medical Rhodes Scholar to Oxford University, combines over forty years of clinical and business management expertise. As Chief Specialist Pathologist at Groote Schuur Hospital and Senior UCT Clinical Professor, he has showcased leadership in multi-site and multi-country healthcare settings in five countries. With an MBA and UK training as a Specialist Histopathologist, he excels in deal-making and leadership, contributing significantly to the establishment of hospitals and polyclinics in in developing countries. Dr. Cruse holds several impactful roles, including Chief Medical Officer and Partner at www.Vitalgates.com , Incoming COO and Senior Medical Advisor at https://neurXstem.com in the USA, and Founding Director of Take Note Event Management in South Africa. His philanthropic dedication is evident in his role as Chief Fundraiser for the South African National Cancer Prevention Society (SANCaPS) and as a Centurion and patron of The Transformation Games, a global movement based in the Hague, which is striving to fund all 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals. With a remarkable track record, Dr. Cruse is a leader and fundraiser, having raised substantial amounts for educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and global Sustainability initiatives, all impacting communities worldwide. << Return to the TEAM page Giovanni Scattola Consigliere Giovanni Scattola joined the board of directors of the GICAM Foundation in June 2023. Graduated in Electronic Engineering from the Polytechnic of Milan in October 1988, he immediately joined the Pirelli group at the Pirelli Coordinamento Pneumatici company in November of the same year as responsible for the tire sector of the Quality System. In this role he managed the definition of company rules and procedures valid for all units of the tire group in compliance with the Total Quality System adopted at the time, the definition of quality standards on the finished product and their auditing. After three years of activity at corporate level, in January 1991, he was transferred to Pirelli Armstrong Tire Corporation at the American operating unit in Hanford (USA). In the Hanford plant he first held the role of process quality manager and subsequently more demanding roles, moving to the responsibility of managing the final controls department and then being promoted to manager of the Semi-finished Products Division. In January 1995 GS returned to Italy called to take care of the family company (Unitable s.p.a.) which operates in the table furniture sector. In the 6 years spent in the Pirelli GS group he developed significant international experience which he carried over into the activity of the family company, pushing it to open up to export markets that had essentially never been addressed until then. In 2020 Unitable s.p.a. becomes the object of the attention of the Thun group and GS, with the collaboration of its family members, is responsible for managing the sale to Thun s.p.a. of Unitable s.p.a. which will materialize in January 2021. Since then Giovanni Scattola has held the role of Executive Advisor for the top management of Thun s.p.a. with the aim of facilitating hand over operations and supporting the definition of internationalization strategies.

Stefano Lucchina Member of the Council << Return to the TEAM page Stefano Lucchina joined the board of directors of GICAM onlus in 2015 and of the GICAM Foundation in 2023. Since 2012 he has been head of mission of 9 humanitarian missions on three continents. Dr. Stefano Lucchina is the founder and CEO of the Locarno Hand Center, a multidisciplinary structure dedicated entirely to the diagnosis and treatment of hand diseases. Stefano Lucchina is now a consultant for hand surgery at the hospitals of Locarno, Bellinzona and Lugano and the Ars Medica Clinic in Gravesano. After graduating in Medicine and Surgery in Milan in 1999 with full marks and honours, he completed his training in hand surgery and reconstructive microsurgery in Milan, Monza, Sydney, Barcelona, Miami, Philadelphia and Turin. He obtained the title of specialist in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology in 2004, then the FESSH European Diploma in Hand Surgery in 2006 in Glasgow (Scotland), the title of Swiss specialist in hand surgery in Biel (CH) in 2011, in ultrasound of the musculoskeletal system in Bern (CH) in 2014 and high-dose radiology in 2016. Dr.Lucchina is the author of over 9000 interventions and a list of over 50 publications in international journals indexed on Pubmed in the clinical field, among others on hand transplants and composite tissue transplantation, participating in the first three hand transplants in Italy in the period 2000-2002 under the direction of Prof. Marco Lanzetta and holding the position from 2002 to 2005 of Secretary of the World Registry of Hand Transplants and Composite Tissues (IRHCTA). He is a corresponding member of the SGH (Swiss Society of Surgery of the Hand), as well as an ordinary member of the SICM, FESSH (European Societies for Surgery of the Hand) and of the ASSH (American Society for Surgery of the Hand). Since 2007 he has been a teacher in Lugano for the degree course in ergotherapy at SUPSI, for TSO training (operating room technicians) at the SSMT (Higher Medical-Technical School) and Faculty member of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Italian Switzerland (USI) of Lugano In 2007 he won the Italian TOYP (The outstanding young persons) award for research, in 2010 he was co-author for the best poster presentation at the FESSH congress (European Societies for Surgery of the Hand) in Bucharest and in 2011 he won the first prize of the Swiss society for the Gong Show award in Biel He is co-founder of the Ticino Hand Unit which since 2010 has been accredited by FESSH (European Societies for Surgery of the Hand) as a Hand Trauma Center. He is co-author of the novel "Entre ses mains", winner in 2023 of the Diploma of Merit for a book out of competition at the XXV "Citta' di Arona" international literary prize

Gianandrea Sassoli Member << Return to the TEAM page Gianandrea Sassoli joined the advisory council of the GICAM Foundation in 2023. He is currently manager and partner of the family business, responsible for the industrial and investment area of Stainless Steel Center and Steel.s Poland. Graduated in law, he has been present in the steel sector for over 30 years, building his specialist knowledge in the metal sector and in particular in stainless steel flat rolled products first at the company. Mexinox, then Krupp Hoesch international and KruppThyssen Nirosta. He was Vice President of the Sassoli Group, dealing with the commercial networks of Sarinox Metalli, Lare Acciai and TK Acciai as well as President of Triaton Italia, SAP partner. Then CEO of Schmolz+Bickenback Acciai Speciali. The Sassoli family has been involved in social work for over three decades, supporting the Ecuadorian mission with the Los Ninos de Quito project.

<< Return to the TEAM page Member of the Council President Gian Marco Lepri, a professional with extensive experience in the financial sector, has gone through several significant stages in his career. Born on 30 April 1953 and graduated in Commerce in Bellinzona, Lepri began his career as a manager at UBS Ticino, contributing to the local financial scene until 2009. Subsequently, he broadened his professional horizon by taking on senior roles at the Private Bank Maerki & Baumann in Zurich, where as General Director until 2016. His experience in these prestigious financial institutions has certainly enriched his skillset and made him a valuable financial advisor. In addition to his commitment to the banking sector, Lepri actively contributed to the management and direction of GICAM where he held the role of General Director until March 2023. His leadership has certainly influenced the path of this organization. Currently, Lepri holds the role of President on the GICAM Advisory Board, demonstrating his constant presence and influence in the financial sector even after leaving his previous position.

Ernesto Caracciolo Member of the Council << Return to the TEAM page Ernesto Caracciolo, born in Milan on 10.7.1965, married to a Danish woman and with three children, also born in Denmark. Lawyer, son of art, since the very early nineties, I began to collaborate with the Institute of Forensic Medicine of Milan on the subject of professional medical liability and since then I have been constantly involved in assisting and defending representatives of this category, generally surgeons, called in cause to be held accountable for their activities allegedly characterized by malpractice. Former Vice President of the Italian-Danish Chamber of Commerce, I speak both of these languages fluently, also because the other half of my professional activity is dedicated to business consultancy for SMEs, including those of an international nature. He has been part of the Board of Directors of the GICAM Foundation since 2023 and takes care of its legal aspects.

Gaetano Belloni Member << Return to the TEAM page Gaetano Luca Belloni, professional journalist since 1992, writes for leading Italian economic newspapers, including Milano Finanza, ItaliaOggi and Capital. Formerly president of the auditors of the ODG of Lombardy, he is currently the Lombard delegate of the Gist, the Italian Tourist Press Group.
