Stefano Lucchina

Stefano Lucchina joined the board of directors of GICAM onlus in 2015 and of the GICAM Foundation in 2023.
Since 2012 he has been head of mission of 9 humanitarian missions on three continents.
Dr. Stefano Lucchina is the founder and CEO of the Locarno Hand Center, a multidisciplinary structure dedicated entirely to the diagnosis and treatment of hand diseases.
Stefano Lucchina is now a consultant for hand surgery at the hospitals of Locarno, Bellinzona and Lugano and the Ars Medica Clinic in Gravesano.
After graduating in Medicine and Surgery in Milan in 1999 with full marks and honours, he completed his training in hand surgery and reconstructive microsurgery in Milan, Monza, Sydney, Barcelona, Miami, Philadelphia and Turin.
He obtained the title of specialist in Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology in 2004, then the FESSH European Diploma in Hand Surgery in 2006 in Glasgow (Scotland), the title of Swiss specialist in hand surgery in Biel (CH) in 2011, in ultrasound of the musculoskeletal system in Bern (CH) in 2014 and high-dose radiology in 2016.
Dr.Lucchina is the author of over 9000 interventions and a list of over 50 publications in international journals indexed on Pubmed in the clinical field, among others on hand transplants and composite tissue transplantation, participating in the first three hand transplants in Italy in the period 2000-2002 under the direction of Prof. Marco Lanzetta and holding the position from 2002 to 2005 of Secretary of the World Registry of Hand Transplants and Composite Tissues (IRHCTA).
He is a corresponding member of the SGH (Swiss Society of Surgery of the Hand), as well as an ordinary member of the SICM, FESSH (European Societies for Surgery of the Hand) and of the ASSH (American Society for Surgery of the Hand).
Since 2007 he has been a teacher in Lugano for the degree course in ergotherapy at SUPSI, for TSO training (operating room technicians) at the SSMT (Higher Medical-Technical School) and Faculty member of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Italian Switzerland (USI) of Lugano

In 2007 he won the Italian TOYP (The outstanding young persons) award for research, in 2010 he was co-author for the best poster presentation at the FESSH congress (European Societies for Surgery of the Hand) in Bucharest and in 2011 he won the first prize of the Swiss society for the Gong Show award in Biel
He is co-founder of the Ticino Hand Unit which since 2010 has been accredited by FESSH (European Societies for Surgery of the Hand) as a Hand Trauma Center.
He is co-author of the novel "Entre ses mains", winner in 2023 of the Diploma of Merit for a book out of competition at the XXV "Citta' di Arona" international literary prize
